A number of important developments in the foreign policy of the country were held in the first half of January. In particular, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress Chen Zhili and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Park Hee-tae. The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan also held meetings with heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Tashkent.

A number of important developments in the foreign policy of the country took place in the second decade of December. In particular, representatives of Japan, Finland, USA, France had a meetings in the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On ratification of Convention of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization against terrorism (Yekaterinburg city, 16 June 2009)”, attended a session of the Council of Collective Security of the member-states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and summit of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

A number of important developments in the foreign policy of the country took place in the first decade of December. In particular, the Uzbek governmental delegations visited Japan and Great Britain. Moreover, a meeting with newly appointed head of the Representative Office of German International Cooperation (GIZ) in Uzbekistan Karl Testensen was held in the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

A number of important developments in the foreign policy of the country took place in the second decade of November. The National Adult Education Forum was organized in Tashkent with the support of UNDP, as well as the meeting of President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov with Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Margaret Chan at the Oqsaroy residence. In addition, a meeting with newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Uzbekistan with residence in Kiev Ion Stavila was held in the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

A number of important developments in the foreign policy of the country took place in the second decade of November. An international conference «Alternative methods of dispute resolution as a way of protecting the legitimate interests of individuals and legal entities», the fifth session of cooperation forum «Republic of Korea – Central Asia» which were held in Tashkent can particularly be noted. In addition, a meeting with the UK Assistant Chief of Defense Staff Graham Howard was held in the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

 

CENTER FOR POLITICAL STUDIES is an independent, nongovernmental, nonprofit organization founded in Tashkent in the framework of promotion to the development of Uzbek social and political studies. The list of founders of the Center includes a number of scientific-educational, research and governmental structures, among which the Academy of State and Social Construction under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic Uzbekistan, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the National University of Uzbekistan and the Center for Effective Economic Policy under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The purposes and goals

The primary purpose of the Center’s activity is to carry out scientific-applied researches on present-day issues of internal and foreign policy of Uzbekistan, regional security, economic development, international cooperation and preparation on this basis informational, analytical and prognosis materials.

The main goals of the Center are:

• to analyze present-day issues of international relations and regional cooperation;

• to make comparative analysis of home policy, social-economic situation and foreign strategy of Central Asian states to forecast socio-political  and socio-economic processes in the region;

• to study problems of regional development and to find out acceptable ways of  regional integration; 

• to study the process of geopolitical transformation of Central Asia, to analyze and forecast policy and strategy of foreign states and international institutions to the region as a whole and Uzbekistan in particular; 

• to monitor challenges and threats to regional security and work out recommendations on their effective neutralization; 

• to carry out researches on important issues of international and regional security, regional transport communications, energy and infrastructure; 

• to monitor and analyze mass-media and public opinion in foreign countries, policy of international and nongovernmental organizations concerning political, social and economic development of the Central Asian Region and separate states; 

• to study global problems, new challenges and threats to security and stable development in the focus of national interests of Uzbekistan and Central Asian Region.

For the realization of its primary goals the Center for Political Studies, in particular:

• carries out the analysis of the information from different sources;

• creates the information fund including the specialized database on the directions of its activity;

• prepares reviews of world press and electronic mass-media;

• organizes and carries out conferences with the participation of the Center, Uzbek an foreign scientists and experts;

• participates in international conferences, symposiums, seminars on profile issues of the Center for Political Studies;

• establishes and develops scientific and researches ties with the foreign research, publishing, consulting and educational centers, scientists and experts, signs cooperation agreements, including, for carrying out of joint researches, forums and publications.

Directions of activity

The Center for Political Studies today is an independent organization which activity also includes applied character.
The Center monthly publishes the Information-Analytical Bulletin which informs about the most important events of the month, future events in Uzbekistan, region and the world, the Center’s activity in the framework of projects, provides brief analytical materials and prognosis. The Bulletin is distributed among the diplomatic corps accredited in Uzbekistan, international organizations, Uzbek ministries and governmental organizations, and also provided to the foreign research structures cooperating with the Center for Political Studies.

The forum also operates within the framework of the website with the purpose of establishing the channel of a feedback with a reader's audience and the interested structures.

Besides an information direction in activity of the Center, the important part is the project component: definition and development of a topic of research, its discussion with wide international research circles within the framework of round tables, conferences, forums and consultations and further coverage of the results in publications of the Center and mass-media.

According to the Center’s tasks mentioned in Charter, the Center for Political Studies, in particular, puts before itself a goal to cooperate closely with scientific and educational organizations of Uzbekistan, international organizations and research institutes of foreign states, to conduct with them joint researches on different actual issues of the present in the field of a politics, economy and security.
