On May 28 the Center for Political Studies jointly with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organized an international roundtable entitled “New challenges in politics and economy”.
The main goal of the round table was to consider contemporary political and economic processes in the context of new threats and challenges, as well as exchange views on issues of internal and foreign policy.
Senior-level experts from scientific and analytical structures, parliamentarians, representatives of academia, diplomatic corps and international organizations, accredited in Tashkent gathered at the round table.
During the event, several presentations were made by invited experts from Germany.
In particular, President of the Saxon State Parliament Dr. Matthias Röβler, in his report “Development of population in Germany and Europe” touched upon one of the pressing issues of the European agenda: the problem of the population growth reducing and society aging. Analyzing the historical background of these problems, Dr. Röβler in his presentation clearly demonstrated the dynamics of demographic changes on the European continent. Regarding the demographic situation in Germany, the speaker drew attention to the observed trend among high-skilled personnel moving from east to west, as well as a significant difference in the proportion between adults and young people. As pointed out by Dr. Röβler, foreign labor immigration to Germany is not able to positively influence the demographic situation in the country. Moreover, the situation is aggravated by the fact that migration mainly occurs due to inflow of large number of low-skilled labor forces. According to German expert, important is to attract highly qualified personnel, as well as stimulate the birth rate among the national elite – educated strata of society.
Address of Steffen Flath, member of the Saxon State Parliament, President of CDU faction, was devoted to the role of factions and parties in parliament. In an example of the Saxon Parliament, S.Flat talked about the features of the parties in parliament in the period before and after the elections.
A particular interest of the participants was raised by the report of Dieter Althaus, Vice-President Corporate Marketing & Sales VW, which was dedicated to the development of medium-sized businesses and innovation as a key factor of economic progress.
Following the presentations, there were active discussions that made possible to have a comparative look at the German and Uzbek activity experience in abovementioned areas as well as to elaborate relevant conclusions and recommendations.
