On June 25 a roundtable discussion on “Multiparty system in Uzbekistan: achievements and prospects” was held at the Institute for Civil Society Studies.
The participants of the event were members of parliament of the republic, political scientists; experts specialized in matters of parliamentary, party activity, theory and practice of elections to representative bodies. The experts of the CPS took part at the round table.
Topic of the roundtable was devoted to consideration of stages of formation of a multiparty system, experience of foreign countries in this area, existing gaps and opportunities for its improvement.
During the discussions an active exchange of views on a wide range of issues of the agenda was conducted, in particular, a special attention was paid to the legal basis of a multiparty system, activization of the party work with the electorate, the youth, problems of encouraging competition between the parties/factions not only at election time, but after them during the legislative process in parliament.
The experts agreed that along with notable achievements in the field of multiparty system in Uzbekistan, there is a field for its further improvement, which requires constant work to achieve in the long run an effective multiparty system in the country, meeting all the canons of legal and democratic state.
