A number of important
developments in the foreign policy of the country took place in the first
decade of December. In particular, the Uzbek governmental delegations visited
Japan and Great Britain. Moreover, a meeting with newly appointed head of the
Representative Office of German International Cooperation (GIZ) in Uzbekistan
Karl Testensen was held in the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
On December 07, a delegation
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan participated at the Sixth
Senior Officials' Meeting of the «Central Asia plus Japan» dialogue in Tokyo/Japan.
Representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Japan also
participated at the meeting.
During the meeting, the participants considered priority directions of
developing regional cooperation in partnership with Japan, including in such
areas as trade and investment, regional security, fighting extremism and drug
trafficking, transport and communication, energy, healthcare and environment
protection, and joint participation in rehabilitation of Afghanistan.
During the visit, the delegation of Uzbekistan held next round of
political consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and
Japan. The sides exchanged opinion on current state and perspectives of
bilateral cooperation in politics, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian
spheres in context of implementation of agreements, reached during the official
visit of Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Japan in February 2011.
On December 09, a delegation
of Uzbekistan, which included heads of committees of Senate and Legislative
Chamber of Oliy Majlis, Institute of Monitoring of Current Legislation under
the President of Uzbekistan and Independent Institute on Monitoring Formation
of Civil Society paid a visit to the United Kingdom.
Uzbek delegation participated at the roundtable “Role of civil
institutes and parliament in ensuring public control over execution of
legislative acts by the state bodies: experience of Uzbekistan and Great
Britain”, which was participated by the representatives of political, expert,
public and business circles.
The delegation also held meeting with the Vice-speaker of the House of
Commons Lindsay Hoyle, representatives of various committees and structures of
the British parliament. The sides discussed development of relations between
Uzbekistan and Great Britain as well as Uzbekistan and the European Union,
regional security, situation in Afghanistan, trade-economic cooperation, human
rights and democratic reforms, etc.
On December 09, a newly appointed head of the representative
office of German International Cooperation (GIZ) in Uzbekistan Karl Testensen
has been received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
The sides discussed issues of current state of cooperation and ways of its
further strengthening. It was noted that it is important to implement
achievements, reached at the intergovernmental consultations on financial and
technical cooperation.
