A number of important developments in the foreign policy of the country were held in the first half of January. In particular, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress Chen Zhili and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Park Hee-tae. The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan also held meetings with heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Tashkent.
On January 6, at the residence Oqsaroy President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Chen Zhili, Vice Chair of Standing Committee at Chinese National People’s Congress, who arrived in Uzbekistan as a special envoy to President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao.
During the meeting, the parties have noted the steadfast trends in the expansion of bilateral trade that has grown fourfold in the last five years to approximately US.2 billion in January-November 2011.
More than 380 enterprises with Chinese capital currently operate in our country, including 58 with 100 percent investments from the PRC. China’s 65 major companies’ representative offices in Uzbekistan have been making their input into consolidation of economic ties.
On January 10, the head of the UNICEF office in Uzbekistan Jean-Michel Delmotte has been received at the MFA of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the sides considered implementation of joint projects directed at further developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UNICEF.
On the same day, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Uzbekistan Yuriy Savchenko held negotiations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
Druing the meeting, the sides discussed actual issues of the Uzbek-Ukrainian relations.
On January 10, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received a speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Park Hee-tae.
During the talks, the sides noted that high level of inter-parliamentary relations play important role in dynamic development of the Uzbek-Korean relations. The sides underlined sustainable trend of expanding of trade-economic and investment cooperation. Bilateral trade turnover exceeded US newscat="news%" newspage="/news/" number="5" showpages="true".5 billion in eleven months of 2011. Announced investments of South Korea to Uzbekistan exceed US billion, while used investments – US billion.
On January 12, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain to Uzbekistan Rupert Joy has been received at the MFA of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged opinion on issues of the Uzbek-British agenda and paid a special attention to issues of developing bilateral relations in 2012 and in future.
On the same day, a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyz Republic to Uzbekistan Anvarbek Mokeev who is completing his mission in Uzbekistan was held at the MFA of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged opinion on actual issues of bilateral relations.
