Russia – a major energy power in the world – seems to be facing serious challenges in the gas sphere. The first two months of 2010 the world economy has witnessed the events that possibly will lead to fundamental shifts in its structure. Scientific and technological potential of the state is vital to achieving and maintaining a high level of development in the XXI century. On February 25, international credit rating agencies again brought nervousness on world stock and commodity markets. Helmand province is one of the key strongholds of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Production and export of oil and natural gas in Central Asia of recent decades has contributed to greater integration of the energy sector of the region to the global oil and gas market, making it an essential part of the world economy. One of the priorities of Uzbekistan's energy security strategy is to diversify export flows of natural gas. Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, for the first time in the post-soviet territory hosted 43rd Annual Meeting of Asian Development Bank. Despite the announcement of some governments and the representatives of international organizations about the completion of sharp period of crisis at the end of 2009, the beginning of 2010 was marked by alarming events and tendencies. These events indicate the retention of destabilizing factors that influence the general state of global economy in medium term. The first quarter of 2010 has marked new progresses in the implementation of two main Russian pipeline projects – Nord Stream and South Stream. |
